Its been said, “Laughter is food for the soul”. If that is even remotely true, Pookey Wigington is the Executive-Chef serving a multi-flavored cuisine of comedy for 15 years. On September 17, 1999 Pookey and his partner comedian/actor Chris Spencer launched Chocolate Sundaes Comedy Show at Laugh Factory in Hollywood, California. Chocolate Sundaes is a platform for break out stand-up comedians Aries Spears, Tony Rock, Dane Cook, Ken Jeong, Brandon T. Jackson, Kat Williams and Kevin Hart to name a few. Chocolate Sundaes Comedy Show is where veteran comedians Jamie Foxx, Chris Tucker, Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, and the eccentric Dave Chappelle vied to hone their routines every Sunday evening in Pookey’s church of laughter.
Don’t let his size fool you. Throughout his life, Pookey has been under estimated and has done what many said he couldn’t at 5’3”; Pookey is a legendary college basketball star known by many for playing in the 1989 NCAA Final Four Championship game while playing for Seton Hall where Seton Hall lost to Michi- gan State in overtime. A knee injury prevented Pookey from being able to play in the NBA, but did not stop his drive to entertain.
For a decade and a half, Pookey has combined his love for comedy with his event production skills to produce multidimensional comedy shows.
And if that is not enough he provided business management services for entertainers as well as provides brand marketing services to large scale promoters. “When my knee injury took me away from performing on the court, I looked for other opportunities to showcase my talents.” He is a visionary in identifying key talent and maximizing potential while providing an entertainment showcase that has the nation talking.
Aristotle quotes “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts”. Simple mathematics tells us that 2+2 =4…. 4 cups equals 1 pint….2 pints equals a quart and 4 quarts equals a gallon. In 2009 Pookey partnered with comedian Kevin Hart to create Hartbeat Productions, a production management firm… the game changer. Together these two pints have successfully produced over $75 million dollars in gross receipts for their comedy tours and box office smashes “Laugh At My Pain” and “Let Me Explain” proving that while fables may not make sense, they make dollars. Subsequently Pookey and Kevin are laughing all the way to the bank.
Pookey grew up in Inglewood, California. He received a BA in Marketing at Seton Hall University. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his four young sons.
As a philanthropist dedicated to the youth, Pookey has developed programs that support the next generation and as such is recognized for his efforts with none profits organizations, Team Dream Academy, Britticares International, Comedy in Schools, Shields for Families and Children Uniting Nations.
